Still time to sign up for Summer CSA!

Posted 5/1/2017 8:59am by Core Committee.

Good morning,

Wishing you had signed up for a bounty of local, organic vegetables delivered weekly from a farmer named Zaid? Good news: we have extended our Summer and Fall CSA deadline!

You now have until Thursday, May 11 to purchase your share (which is two days after our open potluck at St Marks Church on the Bowery).

SIgn up for a CSA share

So...why join a CSA?

To save money: The price is just $415 for a regular, weekly share. In case you haven't already done your research, that is significantly lower than most CSAs, which run about $550-$600 for the season. That means you take home about 2 grocery bags worth of veggies for $17 a week!

To support small farms and farmers: If you're excited about the growing interest in local agriculture: this is the NUMBER ONE to personally support the movement. Why? CSAs offer two unique benefits to farmers. 1) they allow them to get paid up-front, which means they have the funds to set up their farm in the spring, which would otherwise be their lowest income-producing season. 2) they create a situation where we share in the risk and reward. Great weather? CSA members get loads of food at the same price. Crappy weather? Farmers don't go out of business because of one poor season.

Okay, I'm convinced. I want to help farmers AND save money on groceries. SIGN ME UP!

CSA Potluck for current and former members (bringing a dish optional; having fun not)

We invite you to join us at a CSA event at St Mark's Church on the Bowery! We hope to see you on Tuesday, May 9th, as we wrap up the winter season and usher in the summer with a casual potluck with wine and beer provided by the CSA.

Bring yourself, any friends you have who might want to learn more about CSAs, and a dish if you feel so inclined (though it's absolutely not necessary). We'll have chef demonstrations by last year's Smackdown winners and core committee members, as well as a short info session for those who want to learn more about becoming members.

The farm has extended membership deadlines so that new members can sign up at the event.

Event details (no RSVP necessary):

  • Tuesday, May 9th
  • 6:30 - 8pm
  • St Mark's Church on the Bowery
  • All friends (and potential friends!) of the CSA are welcome!

Here's to another summer of supporting our local farmers and eating great food!
