THIS WEEK IN FOOD NEWS

Greg Asbed

A food activist just won the McArthur "Genius" award. Why that's a big deal:

The award, more commonly given to artists, public intellectuals, and scientific researchers, was big news, and a rare honor in the food world. The recipient, Greg Asbed, co-founded a workers’ rights organization and developed a standards framework called the Fair Food Program (FFP), which was signed on to by some of the biggest retailers and fast food chains in the world.

The New Food Economy spoke with Asbed about America’s cultural shift towards food in the past few decades, and why labor problems — such as violence and abuse among food workers — still need more attention to ensure a truly sustainable food system.

Cheers,
The WSCSA Core Committee
