WSCSA NEWS AND UPDATES

Hi Members,

Tomorrow is our first pickup of the winter season! Please remember to bring your own bags to carry your share in. To the left is a list of what to expect each pickup. The amount you will receive of each item depends on the type of share you ordered. If you ordered from our Thanksgiving Market Day, those items will be available at pickup as well.

Remember, pickup will be located at our usual place from 4pm-8pm:

St. Marks Church on the Bowery
131 East 10th Street

(entrance on East 11th street between 2nd & 3rd Avenues)

We also need volunteers this week in the 3:30-5:30pm slot to help set up the CSA. If you can help out, email us or just come to the church. All members must sign up for one volunteer shift this season. If you have not signed up yet, please do so here

THIS WEEK IN FOOD NEWS

apple farm

Easy as pie? These family apple farms persist against the odds.

For many of us, apple season means pick-your-own outings and trips to the farmers’ market, but these methods of distribution only account for .3 percent of U.S. farm sales. Apples are a $4 billion dollar a year crop in the U.S. This Civil Eats article profiles one local apple farm to shed light on the many hurdles in the apple industry today for small family farmers.

Cheers,
The WSCSA Core Committee
