  • Broccolini
  • Swiss Chard

Baked Kohlrabi Chips with Shallot Yogurt Dip

kohlrabi chips

These kohlrabi chips seem like such a simple and fun idea for a weeknight snack! Even though the recipe calls for shallot and garlic powder in the dipping sauce, I bet it would be great with spring onion or garlic scapes mixed in instead.

Hi Members,

We're looking forward to another week of great summer produce! Just a heads up, we've received a note from the farm that our fruit shares and other add-ons will start on July 2.

We're looking for volunteers in the 4:00pm - 6:30pm time slot this week. Feel free to email us or just stop by and help out if you are available. Remember, all members must volunteer for 2 shifts throughout the season, so if you haven't had a chance to sign up for your first volunteer shift, be sure to do so here

The WSCSA Core Committee

farmWe hope you enjoyed the first CSA delivery. Wednesday’s delivery had issues as our truck broke down in Brooklyn and was towed to Lyndhurst NJ and we are still awaiting the word on what happened. A truck is the most expensive asset on our farm costing as much as 60 to 100 acres of land would. We will try an experiment with our delivery person this Wednesday to see if we can relieve our crew from these long excursions. It would involve taking our produce to the finger lakes, truck it down to the Bronx, and then have our last mile guy Wendell deliver to the CSA sites.

The rain continues punctuated with a few days of a yellow thing appearing in the sky for a cameo appearance. We continue to battle the mud and adverse conditions to get caught up on planting. This time of year, it is hectic as we are planting, weeding, nursing crops, harvesting for all CSAs and markets. At the moment we are trying to get our fall and winter crops in, such as winter squashes, storage radishes, as well as fall cabbages, carrots, and beets. Weather next week has a few 80-degree days finally, that will help things dry out as long as we do not get torrential showers as we have been getting.

Featured Vegetable: Fennel
Fennel is a superfood in terms of phytonutrients and tastes good too. It has a mild licorice flavor with a high fiber content. It is used in traditional medicines. The frons can be eaten as well. The balance can be used in stock. We eat raw as a side with our food. It is heart healthy and can lower blood pressure. High in potassium and selenium.
