Posted 9/9/2019 7:20pm by Core Committee.

Here's what might be coming in our share this week:

  • Celery
  • Eggplants
  • Potatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Squash
  • Leeks
  • Onions
  • Soy Beans
  • Green Beans
  • Tomatillos
  • Cabbage
  • Beets

Roasted Tomatillo Salsa Verde

This is my go-to salsa recipe whenever we get tomatillos. It's super simple: throw tomatillos, tomatoes, onions, and jalepeno peppers onto a sheet pan and roast under the broiler until blackened. Then spin in a blender with lime juice and cilantro.

Hi Members,

Don't forget, fall registration is open this week! If you've been regretting not having the egg or fruit add-on, now's the time to update your membership. The deadline to update and submit payment is Friday, September 13. And if you have any friends or family who want to join for the fall, they can sign up for the 9-week fall share here. Please take a moment to share our flyer with your peers so that we can continue to grow our community and support local farming.

We need volunteers this week in the 6-8:30pm slots. Please email us or just stop by if you can help. Remember, all members must volunteer for 2 shifts throughout the season, so if you haven't had a chance to sign up for your volunteer shifts, be sure to do so here

Writing this after have looked at the 10 day forecast for Norwich. The next 2 nights we have lows below 50 which does not help our summer crops in particular peppers to ripen. We have a commitment of 25000 lbs. of Habanada peppers and it is looking a little scary. We have that much on the plants but will they ripen? However, there is a bit of a warming trend with most night above 50 and days in the 70s.

The countdown has begun with the majority of our growing season behind us. The majority of our crops will be through there cycle by mid-October. The production team continues to harvest and prepare for storage our onion crop as well as carrots and soon crops like rutabaga and storage radishes. Planting now is mostly in high tunnels for late fall and winter sales.

Hopefully you are following us on Instagram, we have two events coming up in the next few weeks:

On 9/15 join us for the Summer Harvest Benefit Dinner to highlight inspiring story of persistence from our friends at Jeanmarie Chocolat farm from Puerto Rico. Details can be found on our Instagram account.

On Sunday 9/22 join us for the the End of Summer Farmer's Dinner Party honoring Chef Suzanne Cupps as she will be leaving Untitled. Her veggie centric dishes are well balanced and combine ingredients in exquisite ways without being pretentious. Reserve a spot on Resy between 5-9pm.
