Simple Ribollita

The cold snap this past weekend had me craving soup, so here's a simple recipe that will help to use up some of those carrots we get every week, in addition to greens and onions.

WSCSA NEWS AND UPDATES

Hi Members,

Looking forward to another week of great produce! We're looking for volunteers in the 2-4pm time slot this week. Email us or stop by if you can help out! If you haven't had a chance to sign up for your volunteer shifts, be sure to do so here

Please note: We only have a few weeks left in the season, and there aren't many volunteer shifts available, but there are quite a few members who have not fulfilled their shifts yet. Please remember that there is a $100 fine for not completing shifts by the end of the season, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible. If none of the remaining time slots will work for you, you can email us at info@washingtonsquarecsa.com for additional opportunities.

Thanks!

NEWS FROM THE FARM

big carrots

The frost happened Friday night into Saturday and our guys scrambled to cover as much as they can with row cover and put supplemental heat in some of our high tunnels to protect our tender summer crops as we usually can get up to one month of semi decent weather to continue to harvest some of our summer crops especially the ones in high tunnels.

The 10-day extended forecast is okay, with highs in the high 50s to low 60s and lows in the mid 30s to the low 40s. Not the best weather for summer crops such as tomatoes and peppers but the hope is that we can at least keep them alive. The guys are frantically continuing the quest to put crops away for winter in addition to fulfilling CSA packing, restaurant orders, and market packing. The next group leaves the first week of November. Haifa and I are already strategizing for next year and looking at how things will change for us.
