WSCSA NEWS AND UPDATES

Hi Members,

We're all set on volunteers this week, but there are only a few weeks left to volunteer, so please be sure to do so hereOnly four pickups remain after 10/15. Out of 72 members, 28 members are yet to fulfill their volunteer requirements (i.e., 2 shifts for summer members and 1 shift for fall members). Please remember that there is a $100 fine for each missed shift. If none of the remaining time slots will work for you, you can email us at info@washingtonsquarecsa.com for additional opportunities.

Thanks!

NEWS FROM THE FARM

high tunnels

Fall is here for sure. Three days ago the forecast overnight was for 44 degrees and it suddenly dropped to 28 degrees. Luckily it did not hurt the crops too bad. However, the shortening days and the highs in the 50 and sixties and lows in the 30s and 40s are taking there toll. Plants just don’t grow much under these conditions.

Five more distributions left, where has the season gone? So, enjoy the last of the summer crops as we transition into the fall and winter crops. We are still looking for people to help in the packing shed as well as a person to help manage some of the issues that come up on the farm. The crew continues to pull storage crops and cleanup fields and prepare high tunnels for winter. Anything planted in the high tunnels now will be available in the spring time.
