Hello Winter Members,

Our ninth and final pick-up is THIS FRIDAY 5/10 from 3:30-6:30pm at the Union Square Greenmarket.  This is a different location, day, and time from our normal distribution.  All shares from Norwich Meadows Farm (ovo-lacto and meat, any number of pick-ups) will be picking up this week, but there are NO Winter Sun Farms shares.

Below, you'll find a map of Union Square North, indicating where Norwich Meadows should be located within the market.  If you can't find it, you can also visit the information stand along Union Square West and ask for help.

The Greenmarket closes at 6:00, at which point we'll start bagging up shares, which can be picked up until 6:30.  After 6:30, we will not be able to save shares or hold them for you...so please be on time to pick up or send a friend/family member in your place!

Hi everyone!

Today is the last day to sign up for Summer 2013 with Washington Square CSA! We still have a few shares left to sell, and we hope that you will join us for this season.  All summer members register for the basic (all fresh veggies) share, and then have the option to add shares of other products such as eggs, cheese, fruit, and much more.  There are still a few new items we're hoping to offer as add-ons, too - so stay tuned!

We hope this email finds you well!  We are excited to announce that the second discount deadline to register for the summer share (at $340) has been extended by two weeks.  The new deadline is Tuesday, April 9!  (Remember, payment must be received by this date to get the discount).  The final registration deadline is still Friday, April 26...so you might as well register a few weeks earlier and get the discount ;)

We also wanted to remind you that we are organizing a farm trip up to Norwich, NY in just a few weeks, on Saturday 4/27.  Members from NYU CSA and Grand Street CSA will also be joining us, so it should be a really great time!  All of the logistics are below.  If you'd like to attend, please email us to let us know!

TRIP LOGISTICS

When: Saturday April 27, 2013

What: Annual Farm Trip!

Who: You do not need to be a member to attend; children and families are welcome. Members from other CSAs are also welcome!

Cost: $20 per person (if you choose to ride the bus) - this must be paid by Saturday, April 13th to reserve a seat!  We will refund this money in part if we are able to provide transportation through participants' personal vehicles.

What’s Included?: $20 will cover the bus rental, gas, and basic snacks such as water, apples, clementines, bananas, granola bars and cookies

What to bring: Money for your lunch (or a bagged lunch), additional snacks, comfortable clothes and shoes, sunhat, additional water, sunscreen, items to occupy you on the bus ride and a smile!

Details: The bus will leave St. Mark’s Church In-the-Bowery (131 East 10th Street, New York, NY 10003) at 7AM and return at approximately 7PM. It is a long drive, but it's the drive our farmer makes every week to bring our delicious CSA produce!

Action Required:

1. If you would like to ride with us to please RSVP by email (info@washingtonsquarecsa.com) or in person at pick-up by Saturday April 13th, 2013. Payments should also be made in full by Saturday April 13th.  If you have any connections to transportation/bus options, please tell us that too!
2. If you plan to drive in your own vehicle to the farm please notify us by email (info@washingtonsquarecsa.com) or in person at pick-up by Saturday April 13th, 2012. We need to let the farmers know how many people to expect and provide folks with directions.  Also let us know whether you could transport other members.

The Summer 2013 CSA season is just around the corner! Every year, the annual farm trip is something the Washington Square CSA Members look forward to. How do Market Days work?

The farm informs us when they will offer a market day and which items will be available.  We then take pre-orders from any members that wish to purchase these additional products (a few weeks in advance).  The farm delivers our Market Day prodcuts with our regular weekly delivery and members pick up their orders at normal distribution.  Like our normal shares, Market Day orders cannot be saved for members that miss the weekly pick-up.

When are Market Days?

We expect to offer 3 market days during the Summer 2013 season.  The first one is likely to be in late June or early July!

Registration Deadlines:
Part of the value of a CSA, for the farm, is to get startup money before the season starts so that they are better prepared for members and markets. However, this only works when members pay early. Therefore, we have 2 pricing deadlines to encourage early sign-ups.

1st Discount Summer deadline - Friday, January 25, 2013 = $330

2nd Discount Summer deadline - Tuesday, March 26, 2013 = $340

Final Summer deadline (full price) - Friday, April 26, 2013 = $380

Fall deadline - date & price TBD

Our distribution site:  We are thrilled to continue our partnership with St. Mark's Church in the Bowery (131 East 10th Street @ 2nd Avenue) for the upcoming summer season.

The Summer Share

This is our basic share of organic produce running for 20-22 weeks (depending on the weather).  Summer share weekly pick-ups typically begin in June and end in October or November. Shares consist mostly of vegetables and do not include fruit (with the exception of melons). Produce is grown in Norwich, New York, see Norwich Meadows Farm for more information.

The Fall Share

This share is designed for people who are away for the Summer such as college students, staff and faculty. For Fall shares, pickups typically begin after Labor day and continue through the end of the summer season.  Fall shares and Summer shares are exactly the same in terms of frequency, quantity and variety; the only difference is the start date.

Pickup time and location:

Summer and Fall share distribution will be on a weeknight from 4pm-8pm at our distribution site (St. Mark's).  We have distributed on Tuesday evenings for the past two seasons, and will be able to confirm whether we'll continue with Tuesday distribution very soon.

Every Summer season has a different start date but pickups usually start mid-June and end the first week of November. Fall shares start in early September.  See Pickup Location for more information.

Frequency:

The Summer share is a weekly pickup for a total of 20-22 pickups. Fall shares are weekly for 9-11 weeks. Due to lack of storage, missed pickups cannot be compensated or refunded. You may arrange to sell or share individual pickups through our Google group. You will be invited to the Google group once you become a member.

Quantity:

Enough fresh produce for 1-3 individuals depending on your diet, goals and cooking style. During peak season, a share weighs about 20 lbs and fills approximately 2 regular canvas bags. If you plan to preserve the harvest for Winter, you may prefer 2 shares.

Variety:

Items in each pickup change weekly and are determined by the farmer according to what is in season. For a sense of our typical crops and length of season for each please see our recorded harvests below.

Payment Policy

We currently only accept personal checks. Payment is required in full before a member may begin picking up shares. Members are responsible for all service fees and charges incurred by the CSA as a result of bounced checks.

Payment Options

Personal check: makes checks payable to Washington Square CSA. Once you are registered, the address to send checks will be emailed to you.  Payments must be received by the deadline in order to use the correspponding discount. You will receive a confirmation when your check is received and credited to your account.

• Payments received by January 25: $330
• Payments received by March 26: $340
• Payments received by April 26: $380

Refund Policy

All Summer and Fall shares include one non-refundable deposit of $50. Refunds minus $50 deposit will be provided before 5/1/2013.

Member Agreement

Member Agreements are a mandatory contract typical to New York City CSA’s. Please visit our Files for a copy of the language in the contract. These contracts are an official means of getting on the same page in terms of what constitutes a CSA committment. Member Agreements are signed electronically once you sign up.

Splitting Shares

Members are welcome to split shares with friends or roommates.  However, in the interest of keeping check-in as simple as possible, the entire share must be picked up by one person.  Members are responsible for dividing their own shares - we can't accommodate people picking up part of a share, or leaving part of a share for someone else to pick up.
