Natalie grew up on a farm on the tiny volcanic Caribbean island of St. Vincent. Frequent consumption of organic fruits and vegetables was the way of life for Natalie, so when she migrated to New York City for college, she was surprised by how disconnected many people were from their food sources. She was also concerned about the obesity and diet related disease epidemic she was witnessing in her community. This - coupled with her passion for farm fresh food and her love for cooking - prompted her to leave her corporate career to pursue a MS in Nutrition and Dietetics at New York University. It was here that Natalie was introduced to the Washington Square CSA in 2010. She became a Core Team Member in 2011 and assumed various roles, currently she is responsible for planning/executing social events as well as many ad hoc projects that come along with a CSA.
Hey everyone! I am a recovering restaurant manager turned stay-at-home Mom. I am currently a resident of the West Village in Manhattan, but I grew up in Columbus, GA. For fun, I explore the city and go to concerts, plays and shows. I love to cook, so I try to do that as often as possible. My career aspirations are to travel the world and to be on a roller derby team. That’s not too much to ask for, right? Can’t wait to get to know you guys!
I'm originally from Kennett Square, PA--the mushroom growing capital of the world!--and have been living in New York City for 7 years (in East Harlem, at present). I currently work as a school administrator for a K-3 elementary charter school in the South Bronx, and I love it! I joined WSCSA for the first time in Summer 2011, thanks to my best friend, and former WSCSA Site Coordinator, Reneice Charles' recommendation. Early in 2012, I joined the Core Committee, and have since taken over responsiblity for the website, registration, and weekly newsletters. In my free time, I sing in a choir based out of Astoria, play volleyball on Sundays, and try to make the most of each day :)
Decades of working in the food industry and my new role as a mother led me to my current role with the WSCSA. From logging hours in production at a restaurant-centric magazine to acting as the event planner to a well-known NYC restaurateur to working the line in overheated restaurant kitchens I have surrounded myself with all things that nourish me. I consider myself lucky to know the food world from points of view small and large, i.e., local homegrown producers vs. the considerations of large "Big Food" corporations. I believe in a good, clean and fair food system and the healing power of whole foods, as such I'm a certified holistic health counselor, community food education coordinator with justfood.org, trained in classical culinary arts (french technique+) and I obtained my masters in food studies at nyu in 2011. I served on the board of slowfoodnyc and volunteer my time with various food-oriented organizations. In addition to managing the logistics and event planning for the WSCSA, I also recently launched a small-business selling slow-cooked prepared foods (stocks/bone broths, soups, sauces) to those who want top-quality home-cooked food without the stress of making it.
