The Winter Share
We are thrilled to continue our partnership with St. Mark's Church in the Bowery for this upcoming winter season.
The Winter Season is an important link to our farm that keeps us supporting Norwich Meadows year round. We would love to have as many of our current members as possible join us this Winter Season at St. Mark's, located at 131 East 10th Street.
Winter Season is designed to send the farm crucial startup funds to cover the cost of seed, equipment, repairs, materials, etc. Winter pickups are once per month from December through May (6 months). We offer three types of Winter shares: Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian (includes dairy and eggs, no meat, from Norwich Meadows Farm) and Omnivore (same as Lacto-Ovo but includes ground beef and chicken, from Norwich Meadows Farm), and a 4 month Vegan Frozen Share (from Winter Sun Farms). Shares consist of root crops, winter greens and a variety of dairy and value-added products from local farmers. Produce is grown in Norwich, New York, see Norwich Meadows Farm for more information.
Pickup time: Winter distribution, like the summer/fall this year, will be Tuesday 4pm-8pm. See Pickup Location for more information.
Frequency: Winter Share is every three weeks for a total of 9 pick-ups. If you purchase the 5 pick-up option, you will pick up every other week. The dates tentatively scheduled are as follows:
- 9 pick-up option: 11/20, 12/11, 1/2, 1/22, 2/12, 3/5, 3/26, 4/16, 5/10*
- 5 pick-up option: 11/20, 1/2, 2/12, 3/26, 5/10*
- Vegan share option: 11/20, 1/2, 2/12, 3/26, 4/16
Due to lack of storage, missed pickups cannot be compensated or refunded. Leftovers are donated to the St. Marks' Food Pantry on Wednesday evenings.
LACTO-OVO VEGETARIAN SHARE provides enough food for 1-3 individuals depending on your diet, goals and cooking style. This share weighs about 20-25 lbs per pickup and fills approximately 2-3 regular canvas bags. Cost = $465 for nine pick-ups or $265 for five pick-ups
OMNIVORE SHARE provides enough food for 1-3 individuals depending on your diet, goals and cooking style. This share weighs about 15-20 lbs per pickup and fills approximately 2 regular canvas bags. The Omnivore share weighs less than the Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian share but equals in value. This difference is due to the higher production cost of meat. Cost = $465 for nine pick-ups or $265 for five pick-ups
VEGAN FROZEN SHARE is a 5-month option either as the main share or as a one-half size add-on. Each pick-up includes 7 items. For more information: Winter Sun Farms website. Cost = $299 full share or $142 add-on share
Variety: The items in each share change on a monthly basis and are determined by what the farmer and local vendors have available. For a sense of our typical Winter season please see our recored harvest below.
