The Winter Share

The Winter Share is an important way to keep supporting Norwich Meadows Farms all year round and to keep our kitchens full of the best ingredients!

('15-'16 winter registration closed, look for '16-'17 details later in the year)

Winter Season is designed to send the farm crucial startup funds to cover the cost of seed, equipment, repairs, materials, etc. Winter pickups are from December through May (five or six pick-ups). We offer three types of Winter shares: Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian and Omnivore (see descriptions below), and a Vegan Frozen Share (from Winter Sun Farms). Shares consist of root crops, winter greens and a variety of dairy and jarred products from local farmers. Produce is grown in Norwich, New York, see Norwich Meadows Farm for more information.

Pickup time:

Winter distribution, like the summer/fall this year, will likely be Tuesdays from 4pm-8pm.  See Pickup Location for more information and check back later in the year for more specifics.

  • The Norwich Meadows Lacto-Ovo and Omnivore Shares have a total of six pick-ups, one every three to six weeks.
  • The Winter Sun Farms Vegan Frozen Shares has a total of five pick-ups.

The pick-up dates will be announced later in the year:

  • Norwich Meadows Lacto-Ovo, Omnivore share pick-up dates: 12/15, 1/5, 1/26, 2/16, 3/8, 4/19
  • Winter Sun Farms Vegan pick-up dates: 12/15, 1/5, 1/26, 3/8, 4/19
Due to lack of storage, missed pickups cannot be compensated or refunded.  Leftovers are donated to the St. Marks' Food Pantry on Wednesday evenings.

Share Options:

LACTO-OVO VEGETARIAN SHARE (includes dairy and eggs [no meat] from Norwich Meadows Farm) provides enough food for 1-3 individuals depending on your diet, goals and cooking style. This share weighs about 20-25 lbs per pickup and fills approximately 2-3 regular canvas bags. Cost = ~$320 for six pick-ups

OMNIVORE SHARE (same as the Lacto-Ovo share but includes ground beef and chicken, from Norwich Meadows Farm) provides enough food for 1-3 individuals depending on your diet, goals and cooking style. This share weighs about 15-20 lbs per pickup and fills approximately 2 regular canvas bags. The Omnivore share weighs less than the Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian share but equals in value.  This difference is due to the higher production cost of meat. Cost = ~$320 for six pick-ups

VEGAN FROZEN SHARE  is a 5-month share option from Winter Sun Farms. Each pick-up includes 7 items including: tomato puree, red & yellow peppers, blueberries, sweet corn, green beans, broccoli, butternut squash puree, fall greens, edamame, cauliflower and/or fresh pea shoots.  All items come frozen or jarred, except for the fresh pea sprouts. For more information: Winter Sun Farms website. Cost = ~$162 for five pick-ups

The items in each share change on a monthly basis and are determined by what the farmer and local vendors have available. For a sense of our typical Winter season please see a sample harvest below.
